This workshop led by visual artist Stewart Francis Easton explores the connection between hand embroidery, abstraction and conscious awareness. Participants will create an abstract form influenced by a composition composed specifically for the exercise, an image filled with a free form hand embroidery. The participants will be encouraged to remove narrative from their work to enable a conscious connection to the process of repetition, color and form. This method frees participants of the expected notion and pressure of creating a familiar image or a ‘likeness’, enabling them to be fully present and experience the ‘slowing movement’ of time.
No previous experience is necessary. Stewart will bring examples of his abstract embroideries for reference.
